Fishing at Lake Apopka, Florida
in the 1940s, Lake Apopka drew 100's of anglers to it's waters. It is said that the lake was so clear that bass could be fished by sight alone. Unfortunately, the lake took a turn for the worst was continually polluted for decades. The pollution resulted in low visibility, a struggling fish and wildlife population, and little to no visitors. Luckily the lake has taken a turn for the better in recent years.

Lake access points are currently being improved for boaters and anglers. There have been numerous stocking events in the past few years of many fish species. In the spring of 2008 400,000 sunshine bass were stocked and again in 2009, after many years of no stocking. In spring of 2013, another requested 400,000 sunshine bass were stocked in the lake. Other fish species found in the lake include varieties of sunfish, bass, shad, and shiner, along with plenty of bluegill.
